My name is Derek Clark. I'm a twenty year old engineering student currently at Everett Community College in Everett, Washington. The reason this blog is even being written is due to an English class I'm taking there. I plan on finishing my third year here after the spring and then I hope to move on to bigger and better things.
My personal connection with this blog topic stems from my love of grunge music I acquired in high school. It helped me through the more difficult times, or as most people remember it, the entirety of those four years. The music, especially that of Nirvana which remains my favorite band, really resonated with me and inspired to learn as much as I could about the bands themselves. As a result, I know lots of little facts and such about various bands and more importantly I have a deeper understanding and appreciation for music in general.
Grunge bands along with Jimi Hendrix inspired me to take up guitar when I was fourteen, even though I hadn't listened to grunge yet at that point. However, guitar brought me to people who did listen to it and so the two merged from there. By now, I've learned quite a few grunge style songs, mostly because they're simple and were great for starting out.
